School Counseling Intern
Hello, everyone! My name is Amy Coffman, and I am a new intern from Carson-Newman College's graduate program in School Counseling. I will be at FIS from January until May under Amy Kroninger. I am very much looking forward to working with all the FIS students, parents, and faculty!
Thanks!
Thanks go to Jennifer Burger, owner of our local McDonald's for setting up  our  Ronald McDonald show and for taking pictures!

Ronald McDonald talks about Giving Back
Our third graders got the chance to participate in an assembly about sharing their talents and gifts with others.  Ronald McDonald did some magic and spoke encouraging words to us  about what we can do to help others.
Guidance Class Topics
Our guidance classes in third grade have focused on decision-making in the classroom and expressing feelings appropriately.  Our guidance classes in fifth grade have focused on expressing feelings appropriately as well as decision-making that leads to healthy and safe choices.  I am trying to help the students make the connection between their choices and the consequences that follow them.  It's not always easy to think ahead to what may happen, but it does help us to make a more informed and often better choice in the present!
Guidance Classes
We meet throughout the year with every class in the school to teach guidance lessons.  Our lessons are based on the national and state school counseling standards, which encompass three specific domains:  personal/social, academic and career.  We talk to your children about topics such as problem solving, conflict resolution, peer pressure, getting along with others, internet safety, study habits and career awareness.  We also meet individually or in small groups with students to focus on particular issues.  The school counseling program is a part of each student's educational services.

We are happy to speak with you about any quesitons or concerns you have regarding our program or how we can help your child.
